Embracing Wabi-Sabi: Finding Beauty in imperfection by these simple steps 
Today, I want to share with you a concept that has captured my heart and transformed the way I perceive the world around me – Wabi-Sabi. This approach has always been present in my life, thanks to the way I grew up and how my mother created a living space characterized by natural elements that we collected outside and by old furniture. At some point, my boyfriends introduced me to the concept of Wabi Sabi – a Japanese philosophy that celebrates the beauty of imperfection, impermanence, and the authenticity of natural processes. In a world that often values sleek perfection and constant progress, Wabi-Sabi offers a refreshing perspective that has the power to bring a profound sense of peace and appreciation for life’s transient nature.
The concept of Wabi Sabi 
Wabi-Sabi finds beauty in the imperfect, the impermanent, and the incomplete. It’s a philosophy that teaches us to embrace the cracks, wrinkles, and scars – not only in objects but also in ourselves and the people around us. Imagine finding beauty in a weathered, rusted piece of metal or a chipped, well-loved ceramic mug. These imperfect elements tell a story, carrying the weight of time and experience, and Wabi-Sabi encourages us to honor and cherish these stories.
One of the most enchanting aspects of Wabi-Sabi is its emphasis on the fleeting nature of life. In a world obsessed with everlasting youth and eternal beauty, Wabi-Sabi encourages us to find joy in the transient moments, the changing seasons, and the inevitability of time passing. How Wabi-Sabi influeces my life, any maybe yours 
Instead of stressing over the pursuit of an idealized version of myself, I started appreciating my quirks, scars, and idiosyncrasies. It’s liberating to let go of the pressure to conform to society’s expectations and find beauty in my own authenticity.

Wabi-Sabi has also influenced the way I view relationships. In a world that often demands flawlessness, embracing the imperfections in others deepens connec
tions and fosters genuine intimacy. Every wrinkle, every scar, and every imperfect moment shared becomes a testament to the richness of shared experiences.
As I delve deeper into the world of Wabi-Sabi, I find myself gravitating towards simplicity and minimalism. The philosophy values the uncluttered, the modest, and the unpretentious. I’ve started appreciating the beauty of a simple flower arrangement, the elegance of a weathered wooden table, and the calming presence of empty spaces.
In essence, Wabi-Sabi teaches us to find beauty in the ordinary, the imperfect, and the fleeting. It invites us to slow down, savor the present moment, and appreciate the beauty that can be found in the simplest of things. How to integrate Wabi-Sabi in your life – simple steps.
So, here’s to embracing the Wabi-Sabi way of life – finding beauty in imperfection, cultivating an appreciation for the transient, and discovering the profound joy that comes from living authentically.

  1. Declutter Mindfully: 

Simplify your surroundings by decluttering. Keep only what you truly need or things that bring you joy. This helps create a serene environment.

  1. Embrace Imperfection: 

This might be one of the most crucial ways to integrate wabi-sabi: appreciating imperfections in objects, nature, and people by embracing flaws. This fosters a sense of acceptance and beauty in the imperfect and enables you to be attentive in the natural world, because the natural world is perfectly imperfect.

  1. Connect with Nature: 

My personal advice to spend time outdoors as much as possible and to observe natural beauty. By doing so, you also can train your attention and find solace in the changing seasons. Nature truly embodies the essence of Wabi-Sabi.

  1. Practice Gratitude: 

Try to cultivate gratitude for what you have rather than focusing on what you lack. I try to integrate that by thinking about occasions, memories, people, things I am grateful for – at least for 2 minutes a day before I go to bed. I promise you – it’s a life changer, because appreciating the simple things in life can bring immense joy, serenity and positivity. 

  1. Enjoy Simple Pleasures: 

Engage in small and simple activities that bring you joy, whether it’s savoring a cup of tea, taking a leisurely walk, or enjoying a quiet moment.

  1. Use Natural Materials:

I love to incorporate natural elements into my living space. I would always prefer furniture and decor made from wood, stone, or other organic materials. From old, second hand furniture to collectables from nature. It’s easier than you think. As long as you dare

and follow your inspiration. Just go for a walk outside and look for natural elements that create a special and warm atmosphere for you.

  1. Create Tranquil Spaces:

Try to design spaces that evoke calmness and tranquility. From soft lighting, and
minimalistic design, to a cozy ambiance. T
his really contribute to a serene atmosphere.

  1. Slow Down: 

Just avoid rushing through life. Time is all we have and yet we have so little of it. So take time to pause, reflect, and appreciate the present moment. Mindfulness and being present are key to living a simpler life.

  1. Accept Change: 

Embrace the transience of life. Understand that things change and evolve, and that’s a natural part of the Wabi-Sabi philosophy. Even accept the memento mori – it will change your view of life. 

  1. Express Creativity: 

Engage in creative pursuits like painting, pottery, or writing. Embrace the creative process, including imperfections, because it is part of the beauty and Wabi-Sabi.
